Cyber security strategy highlights tech’s national importance

Government plan outlines importance of IT sector to Australian economy and national security

22 November 2023

The Federal government’s cyber security strategy released today is an important step in recognising the technology sector’s importance to the Australian economy and national security says ACS.

“As the professional body for the Australian technology sector, we’re pleased to see the federal government has recognised the key role our members and the wider IT workforce play in keeping the nation secure and prosperous,” stated ACS Chief Executive, Chris Vein.

“With the sector touching every corner of society, it’s critical our systems are safe and secure so that every Australian can be confident their data is protected and their connectivity is reliable.

“Last week we launched our Annual Digital Pulse report outlining the opportunities for Australians in the face of rapid tech change as technologies like artificial intelligence are adopted, the cybersecurity strategy emphasises just how critical keeping these systems secure will be to the nation in coming years.

“The government’s program to support SMEs is also a very welcome step as supporting smaller businesses and building the workforce’s skills to deal with the rapidly evolving cyber security landscape was a key part of ACS’ submission to the Cyber Security discussion paper earlier this year.

“At ACS we’re looking forward to working with the Federal government and Minister O’Neil on delivering the Strategy’s important objectives to ensure all Australians can use technology safely and securely.”
