About this event

We are living in an unprecedented age and unprecedented potential.

In the 2000s, the internet and social media changed the way we work and live. Now multiple disruptive and transformative technologies are on the horizon. From virtual, augmented and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) to blockchain to automation, we are in a time of accelerated change. And with that change comes the great potential for a bright future.

The challenge for for both professionals and organisations becomes how to pick out which trends and technologies will matter and what their implications will likely be.

This session will provide attendees with just that. Using her super powers of identifying and explaining key trends and technologies in an engaging and accessible way, Dr. Kate Raynes-Goldie will draw on exciting real world case studies from Australia and beyond to provide a glimpse into what the future might hold for how we live, work, learn and play.

You will walk away with a clear idea of what matters and what it might mean for your work or business.

You will learn how the aerospace industry is using mixed reality to train astronauts and how the resource sector is using virtual reality to improve safety on worksites. You'll discover how blockchain (the technology behind bitcoin) is being used for clean energy distribution and how citizen science, big data and algorithms are being used for drug-free, effective contraception.

You will also learn about how these technologies intersect with and enable new ways of working, living and learning that are already here, today. From co-living to co-working spaces, to remote working and digital nomads to the guaranteed minimum income, the way we work and live is changing. Power is shifting towards communities and neighbourhoods, to individuals engaging with each other directly.

The original dreams of early internet pioneers of a more free, decentralised society looks all the more possible. And the potential for a human focused future becomes all the more real.
