About this event

The 2022 Australian federal election is approaching, but what does this mean for the IT sector? The sector is suffering from a skills shortage and increased digital threats while Australia is falling in global innovation and competitiveness measures.

How can Australia respond to these challenges and grasp the opportunities technology presents for the economy and society?

ACS President, Dr Nick Tate, invites you to hear representatives from the major political parties debate policies ACS has called for as part of its federal election platform, Building Australia’s digital future.

The ACS federal election platform focuses on nine key policy areas, including:
  • Addressing the skill shortage through initiatives to increase the pipeline for the tech workforce, including gender diversity;
  • Improving the workforce’s digital skills through assisting businesses;
  • Ensuring Parliament has the right advice and recognising the importance of technology in discussions, including the need for a Cabinet-level Digital Economy portfolio;
  • Protecting Australia and its people from cyber attack, spam and scams; and
  • Building Australia’s regional digital economy.
