Diversity in IT Project Management - We are not all 1's and 0's.
Opportunities and Challenges to achieve diversity in the Project Management profession.
About our panel of Speakers:
Margaret Hilliard, Project Manager, Submarines Group, Department of Defence
Margaret Hilliard has been a Project Manager with the Collins Submarines Program for the past seven years, working on projects which include upgrading the submarine Simulator.
Prior to working with Defence she has also worked in printing, publishing, recruitment and IT, in Australia, Ireland and the US. A short stint in prison (teaching and not as a resident) offered an interesting opportunity to learn and push boundaries.
From early on in Margaret’s career she was working in environments that presented very little diversity and were traditionally male dominated professions. Margaret has a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from UniSA as well as PMP, AIPM CPPM and PRINCE2 Practitioner accreditations.
Margaret will bring an LGBTQI perspective to the panel discussion.
Peter Pavan, IT / Business Project Manager
Peter is currently a self employed contract IT/Business Project Manager, has served on the PMI Adelaide Chapter Board since 2011 and into his 4th year as President.
Peter has over 30 years experience across diverse industries (including banking & finance, government, health, energy and utility sectors), management consulting and software vendor experience.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Studies, he commenced his career in software development and has stumbled into project management. An “accidental” project manager.
Peter is passionate about his profession, a volunteering junkie and enjoys cycling in his spare time.
Maria Raymond, Project Consultant, SA Power Networks
Maria is currently a Project Consultant at SA Power Networks, South Australia’s single operator of the state’s electricity distribution network.
She is responsible for delivering large IT Projects to deliver business benefits and technology advances that will enable SA Power Networks to remain relevant to their customers in a dynamic and uncertain operating environment. She is also an Advisory Board member and mentor to local company, Link4 helping businesses globally improve their cashflow position and reduce overheads by fast-tracking the invoicing process.
Maria has more than 20 years of expertise in the Software Industry. She began her career as an IT cadet with BHP, Long Products Division. Since then, numerous local and global, private and government organisations have benefited from her ability to lead geographically dispersed teams to successfully deliver large, critical business projects in complex IT environments across Utilities, Mining, Manufacturing, Health and Finance.
Maria has also led global delivery teams for top tier IT Service Providers such as HP and enterprise software providers such as CAMMS, where she led the transformation of the Services Strategy as the Head of Global Services responsible for all revenue-generating activities including product roadmap, customer success and retention, operations and marketing in an ever changing Technology market sector.
Maria will bring a Women in IT PM perspective to the panel discussion.
