Session 1 - "Making English the Language of your Heart: Using Passion and Emotion in your Speaking Style"
Presented by Amy Rashap
“It ain’t what you do, but the way that you do it . . . that’s what gets results.”
This 1939 tune carries a very wise message for the job seeker and public speaker. There is some truth to a slight alteration of this song’s message:
“It ain’t what you say, it’s the way that you say it . . . that’s what gets results.”
In order to connect with others, of course you must have a great story to tell — with fabulous, audience-focused content — but it is equally important to know how to use your voice to carry your story forward. What good is a great story that will draw people to you if your voice itself doesn’t attract others to you?
Many of you speak English as a second, or third (or fourth!) language. Some of you may view English as a utilitarian language—one that is spoken primarily for school and work. Perhaps some of you go home at the end of the day, and with relief speak to your family and friends in your mother tongue. You may not view English as a source of joy. That attitude can actually be a disadvantage as you hit the streets looking for a job, or hoping to advance your career in an English-speaking environment.
In this talk, I hope to give you copious examples of how speaking with passion in English can change your attitude towards this language and make you a more confident communicator. I’ll be talking about the vocal tools you need to be able to speak eloquently and clearly, and I’ll show lots of examples from amazing speakers who speak English as a second language. You will receive handouts with exercises that you can do at home in order to practice speaking English with passion and—perhaps—joy?
It can make a difference.
Session 2 - "Tools and tips for moving your cyber security career forward"
Presented by Claire Pales
While landing a job in security is an exciting and challenging process, with the right tools you can find and secure a great role.
In this presentation, Claire Pales, author of ‘The Secure CIO’ will discuss key areas to consider when joining or planning your next step in the cyber security industry. From the value of networking to targeted interview questions, this talk will provide you with actions to take to move your career forward.
Session 3 - "How watching Disney movies on Netflix leads to career success"
Presented by Dayle Stevens
Did you know that watching Disney movies on Netflix was essential for your career? Are you ready to master the number one leadership skill for the next decade? This workshop is an invitation for you to dramatically increase your presence and ability to influence. You will learn how to use storytelling to connect, engage and inspire, for unprecedented personal and business success.
The workshop format is split into three sections aimed at leading the participants through understanding business storytelling, understanding how to craft business stories, then creating and delivering their first story.
This workshop is intended for anyone who is ready for the challenge of being able to truly move others through the power of storytelling at work. It is suitable for students, professionals at any stage of their career, and for entrepreneurs. Less experienced participants will learn to use storytelling to increase their ability to communicate and influence others. More experienced participants will learn to use storytelling to dramatically increase their leadership presence.
Professional Year students - Attending the half-day conference will count for all 6 CPD hours required to complete your studies. All three sessions must be attended in order for your enrollment to be processed.
