In recognition of her outstanding contributions to educational technology, Ann was honored with the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Queensland Chair's Medal in 2021.
In 2023, alongside Miguel Besas, the founder of Imagine Realities Inc., Ann successfully pitched and won the Advance Queensland Private Sector Pathways Program for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Challenge. Together, they are using immersive technologies to engage school children, helping them learn about the orchestra and experience the joy of live music through a holographic game board and real-time 3D experiences.
That same year, Ann also received the Best Poster Award and the Outstanding Paper Award at the 2023 EdMedia and Innovate Learning Conference held at the University of Vienna. As a volunteer, Professor Cowling is currently the President of ASCILITE, and Vice President of the Open Access Publishing Association.
Michael believes strongly in the power of outreach and engagement. His Queensland Government workshop series ‘Weaving Technology into the Fabric of the Classroom’ has trained hundreds of educators about innovative technology, and in the CSIRO-supported ‘Professor Tech’ program he has presented to students in over a dozen K-12 schools. His own higher education students, as well as hundreds of school teachers, and tens of thousands of students from kindergarten to doctoral level have learned directly and indirectly from him, benefitting from his mantra of ‘pedagogy before technology’ and his commitment to technology enhancing the student educational experience.
Combining his experience in games, business, academia, management and leadership, Jens is responsible for representing and growing the IGEA’s development members by providing them with a voice to government and industry, acting as the interface between the Australian video game development industry and IGEA and work close with state, territory and commonwealth departments and agencies to the benefit of the industry.
In this capacity, he, among other things, organised Australia’s first unified presence at Gamescom, instigated the IGEA mentorship program and was the driving force behind IGEA’s producer course.
Jens is based on the Gold Coast and is always more than happy to catch up for a coffee (when is not busy looking after his two kids and rescue dog).
