Russell will detail Woodside's journey using IBM Watson. This is the first use of Watson globally in the oil and gas industry. It allows Woodside's hundreds of professionals to quickly gain information and insights from decades of exploration and production activities.

The program includes the implementation of a cognitive computing system and is part of Woodside’s innovative technology strategy. The system will allow hundreds of professionals to quickly gain information and insights from decades of Woodside’s oil and gas experience. The system has the potential to enhance decision making across the project life cycle and improve productivity. Russ will share Woodside’s experience in this first-of-its-kind for the oil and gas industry.
After graduating with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Saskatoon in Canada, he worked for Shell Canada as a reservoir engineer before moving to Perth, Western Australia in 1998 to take up a role with Woodside.
Russell’s career with Woodside has included roles in engineering, marketing, mergers and acquisitions and senior commercial and business leadership roles.
