Technology is the fastest-growing sector of the Australian economy. The variety and range of roles are extraordinary. While salaries are $41,000 higher than the national average. In other words, who wouldn’t want a tech job?
The ACS School 2 Tech Transition project is a pathway into a tech job for high school students with a passion for all things digital.
Under the program, successful students can fill the following roles:
- Helpdesk Officer
- IT Customer Service Support
- Data Entry Assistant
- Web Design/Integration
- Network Support Officer
- Keyboard Operator
The ACS School 2 Tech Transition project, which is part of the Queensland Government's Good people. Good jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022–2032, is a work-study course that guarantees a minimum of one day a week for up to 24 months of paid work experience.
The program is designed to develop both technical and interpersonal skills such as communication and teamwork. Carefully matching students with local, reputable companies, ACS strives to provide the support and mentoring necessary to ensure their successful journey and industry growth beyond their work and study experience.
The ACS School 2 Tech Transition project facilitates and supports:
- Students into the ICT30120 Cert III in Information Technology qualification
- Students undertaking of a minimum one day a week of work experience for up to 24 months
- Career preparation, highlighting employability skills relevant to the students future prospects and confidence to be job-ready.
- Students through fortnightly check-ins; or as needed.
How it works
ACS, the tech industry’s largest professional association with 47,000+ members, manages the program in partnership with the Queensland government. They match students to participating companies considering the interests, location and timetable of the student. The core course content includes:
- Developing teamwork
- Providing ICT advice to a client
- Identify IP, ethics and privacy policies in ICT environments
- Managing personal and workplace information
- Enhancing critical and creative thinking skills
- Applying introductory programming techniques

School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)
SATs provide high school students with an opportunity to earn vital work experience and an income while studying for the Queensland Certificate of Education.

Trusted education partners
The ACS School 2 Tech Transition project is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), which is approved by the Queensland government.
An Australian Apprenticeship and Support Network (AASN) provider will liaise with employers to support the recruitment, training and retention of apprentices and trainees. AASN providers will also help in the selection of an RTO, provide a contract and administrative support and check eligibility for government subsidies.
