Standards Australia Working Group

Governance / Standards Australia Working Group page

Internet of Things (IoT) Committee

Standards Australia and the Australian Computer Society (ACS) have a complementary relationship focused on standards development, adoption, and implementation within the realm of information technology (IT) and computing.

Standards Australia is the country's leading independent, non-governmental organization responsible for developing and maintaining voluntary technical and commercial standards across various industries, including IT. These standards are developed through a consensusbased process involving input from industry stakeholders, experts, and government bodies. Standards Australia plays a crucial role in facilitating innovation, ensuring interoperability, and promoting best practices in IT and related sectors.

On the other hand, the Australian Computer Society (ACS) is a professional association representing IT professionals and practitioners in Australia. While the ACS primarily focuses on advocating for the interests of IT professionals, promoting IT education and training, and fostering the growth of the IT industry, it also recognizes the importance of standards in advancing the field of computing.

The relationship between Standards Australia and the ACS is characterized by collaboration and mutual support. The ACS acknowledges the importance of standards in driving innovation, ensuring quality, and promoting the adoption of best practices within the IT industry. As such, the ACS may actively participate in standards development activities led by Standards Australia, providing expertise, feedback, and industry insights to help shape relevant standards.

Conversely, Standards Australia recognizes the role of professional associations like the ACS in advocating for the adoption and implementation of standards within the IT community. The ACS may promote the use of relevant standards among its members, facilitate training and education programs related to standards compliance, and advocate for the adoption of standards at the industry and government levels.

Overall, while Standards Australia focuses on the development and maintenance of technical standards, the ACS serves as a key stakeholder in promoting the adoption and implementation of these standards within the Australian IT industry. Their relationship is built on the shared goal of driving innovation, promoting best practices, and ensuring the continued growth and success of the IT sector in Australia.
